5 Great Sources for Photography Inspiration

Here is a handful of sites where I garner professional inspiration from. They range from a highly successful and sought after wedding photographer from the OC, California, to a humble (and yet world famous) ranchers wife in the midwest.

There is a lot that you can learn from other peoples photographic work, and it doesn’t matter who you are, what you are or where you are.

If you want to take great photographs the best thing you can do, is look at the work of photographers who inspire you, and learn from them as much as possible.

All thumbnails are clickable to take you to the websites listed (will open in a new window).

1.  Jessica Claire

Without a doubt, the photographer that inspires me the most in my professional capacity, particularly in the wedding genre.

Anyone who can command $15 000 per wedding must be more than worth their salt!  I almost leap closer to my computer screen when I see she’s updated her blog with some of the photos from her latest work. Amazing stuff.

Her photography is proof that you don’t always need to get your subjects heads in the photograph, to get a memorable, emotive shot.

She’s also just moved her office into a new location, and blogged about her remodelling project – wow.

A practically limitless website that can keep you busy for hours.

I usually visit with my notebook and pencil in hand and make notes as I go. Everything from WHAT to shoot, to HOW to shoot it, and how to maintain your inspiration and creative urges.

They are very good at providing examples of work – when they talk about a new concept. Plenty of news, reviews, contests and content for you to pour over!

3.  The Pioneer Woman Photography

Written with wonderful humour and very down to earth knowledge sharing. The Pioneer Woman reminds us that you can be a great photographer, and as humble as the delicious apple pie recipes on her site.

She often has a guest blogger take care of the photography section by the name of Miz Booshay – but either way – the information is always relevant and extremely helpful!

I cannot get enough of the photographs of the wide open spaces, horses, cows and other critters on her Oklahoma ranch. Plus – she has some free Photoshop Actions available for download on her site, and trust me people, they are awesome.

Oh, and if you are going to look at the cooking section of her site, bring a napkin, because there will be drool.

Picture 54.  Coffee Shop Photography

This site is a haven of free actions, templates and other helpful tips, like ‘How to make your own Photoshop brushes etc’.

It is what inspired me to start giving back to the industry beginners.

For those going on this grand journey that is taking photography from an amateur hobby, to a professional business basis and to home users wanting to take their own photography to the next level.

Picture 25.  Me Ra Koh Photography

Wow, this woman, takes photography way, WAY beyond just point and click.

Her photography is *all* about emotions. The emotions of the photographer, the emotion of the subject, the motivation of both, and let’s just say it’s a lesson in positive thinking, confidence building, creativity generation and lots lots more.

She has a set of instructional DVD’s too, my favourite of which is entitled “Refuse to Say Cheese”.  She’s also a spokesperson for SONY so if you want to hear more about this up and coming brand of camera (they’re *very* exciting I assure you) then do go and check out her blog.

Now go forth, be inspired, and above all be creative and have fun!

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up – that’s what happens when you use the ‘autosave’ and then don’t check it. Thanks A! The last two images are now clickable.
